However, you will also see many well maintained homes, aggressive rehab activity in the area —including to the 2 unit building behind us—and some grand, stunning historic homes along the lakefront and west of Jeffrey Blvd. 75th Street off of South Shore Dr, can be a bit of an eyesore, but the residential streets are much more pleasant. Most of the smaller rehabbed homes in South Shore are selling briskly between 300-500K which tells me a lot about how the market (ie prospective buyers) views the prospects for this still affordable lakefront community. The larger, non-rehabbed homes appear to be selling above 600K price point. There are 4 decent eateries all within walking distance -- L&G Diner, Sarah's Cafe, Majani's and South Shore Brew. The nearest grocery store, Local Market, is located at 71st & Jeffrey, about 5 min drive. Whole Foods is a 15 minute drive in neighboring Hyde Park. A proposed entertainment complex consisting of a 7-screen cinema theatre and fine dining options is due to go up also on 71st & Jeffrey. I feel safe in this neighborhood because I know what precautions I ought to take. For example, I would not recommend female guests walk around the neighborhood alone and I would not recommend ANY guests to walk around the neighborhood super late at night. (That would also be my advice for any Chicago neighborhood, by the way). Daytime and evening strolls are perfectly safe. In fact you will see many bicyclists using the Lake Shore Drive bike path. The block is hospitable and neighborly. Our neighbors have a vested interest in ensuring that you feel at home as your presence contributes to the ongoing revitalization of the area and all that means for local job creation, property values etc. Despite all the bad publicity the City of Chicago receives, let’s just say that few, if even any, who live here (or know South Shore, as do I) feel unsafe. I have stayed at this house for long stretches of time as I prepared it for its opening. I have hosted family, including my mother, at this home. In essence, guests are giving up staying in arguably “better” Chicago neighborhoods but are gaining the following: 1) value; 2) space; 3) comfort; 4) easy access to the city via public transport. A) Leave the trash inside or B) Take trash out to bins in the backyard -Do Not dispose of hygienic products in the toilets -Before activating bath tub jets run enough water to cover jets -No flammable materials are allowed on the premises -Only four persons allowed on the rear porch at a time. Close to 2000 sf of space in each unit. Our first floor unit has three bedrooms and two baths. The second and third floor units both have four bedrooms and two baths. Each unit is completely private and has it’s own entrance doors, kitchen, baths, washer and dryer, and HVAC. Each unit has a porch for tobacco use. The rear garage is full and not usable. Each unit is decorated with furnishings from the Gaylord Nashville Hotel. All beds have pillowtop mattresses, bed bug protectors, mattress pads, and down comforters and pillows. We offer free WIFI in each unit. The entire condo is for your exclusive use and enjoyment. Before Check-In you will be provided the lock box code to get the keys. There are NO cameras inside the guest unit. However, there are HD cameras that monitor/record the building common areas (e.g. stairways, exteriors). We are on site regularly and have staff nearby in case of any issues and WE MONITOR THE PROPERTY.. The property is located on a quiet well-lit residential street half a block from The Jackson Park Golf Course. Lake Michigan beaches and biking trails are 3 miles away. 2 miles to the north sits Hyde Park. Hyde Park is like a little city within the big city. It’s bustling with a diverse array of dining/entertainment options and it’s a great place for leisurely strolling. All in all, the area is a beautiful mix of cool people. It's just the way the world should be. My family and I love living here! The area is re-gentrifying. Many Guests have commented on how warm and welcoming the neighbors are. There is another vacation rental on the block and people are becoming quite used to seeing world travelers. Always keep in mind, Chicago is an urban environment. Please take the normal precautions you would in any big city. Be mindful of your surroundings, stay alert, do not bring unwanted attention to yourself - like walking around with $100 bills taped to your jacket. Don't leave your doors unlocked or leave valuables out in public view. We haven't had any issues in five years, so you should have nothing to worry about. Chicago is a very bicycle friendly town. The city has one of the most expansive bicycle sharing networks in the country with over 5,800 bikes for rental at 580 locations spread throughout the city. In Summer of 2019, the city granted licenses to private vendors to begin renting electric scooters. The scooter program is not yet city wide, but availability is expanding fast.
